How it Works
The battery struggle is real when it comes to wireless headphones because while a brand new speaker will deliver the goods, the older they get, they hardly last a couple of hours on charge. And, you’re sapping energy from the electrical grid every time you top them up.
But, according to JBL, this problem can be solved by a Powerfoyle material from Exeger similar to Logitech’s solar keyboards, which can draw energy from indirect and indoor light as well as the Sun. With these under the hood, an hour and half of outdoor time is good enough for 68 hours of listening if you start with a fully-charged battery. While this is wonderful during summer, there is a lot of darkness during winter and the conditions aren’t nearly as favorable even if there is some amount of light. You might worry but there’s a good chance you won’t have to plug in. JBL estimates that with backup, you can plug the headphones in through USB and get two hours of playback in 15 minutes.
Apart from these, the headphones have all the qualities of a standard JBL product. They come with a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency response range and 40 mm driver. You can also enjoy hands-free calling and control over your choice of voice assistant. Additional features include multi-device pairing and IPX4-rated which is water resistance for outdoor events, rain, or if you keep these speakers in your car (usually boiling hot in the sun anyway) and accidentally spill water on it.
Sources say that JBL and the materials coming from Exeger will use the crowdfunding to study feedback and tweak the design, so you still have the chance to put in any complaints you want addressed right away before it’s too late. JBL has recently conquered its crowdfunding target for these headphones, so pledging $99 before the campaign’s end on January 14th makes it very possible that you’ll get a pair of these headphones by an estimated October 2020 release date.
