The Nokia BH 111 is a light-weight Bluetooth headset from Nokia which goes really well with the Lumia series phones. Here are my thoughts on the device for anyone curious about its performance. First things first, it really is a beautiful piece of tech which is small in size, weightless and still performs really well. The bright colors that it comes in might be adding to the stylish look of this gadget. I got a cyan BH-111 and prefer this color over others. So let’s jump right into the review part.
What’s in the box?
• The Bluetooth stereo headset BH-111
• A pair of Nokia HP-5 earphones
• Interchangeable earbuds of S/M/L sizes
• Nokia 2 mm Charger
• Quick guide and documents
Design and Build Quality
The BH-111 has a unique and stylish design and is versatile with its 3.5 mm headphone jack. The dongle is made of hard plastic but the front panel is covered with a rubbery finish material which does not get scratches easily. The four buttons come under this thick skin which makes it very less prone to mechanical damages and dust. The clip at the back of the dongle is strong and holds really tight to the fabric of your dress.
The in-ear headphones provided along with are of above average quality and have a really strong and thick cord which isn’t easily breakable. The volume adjustment knob is coated with a rubbery material too and feels good to use. The earbuds are made of really soft silicone and doesn’t hurt the ears even after prolonged use. The dongle has 4 control buttons which allows you to attend calls, pause/play and change music tracks. The earphone port is a 3.5 mm one which is really incredible since you can use any earphone of your choice with the dongle.
The audio quality of this stereo headset actually depends on the earphones used with it. The HP-5 earphones provided along with gives above average sound quality and are a perfect match. The limitations of A2DP streaming are applicable here as the audio is compressed first to be transmitted over Bluetooth. But the Nokia BH-111 does a great job even within the limitations of A2DP streaming and the quality of music is not much degraded over Bluetooth. The range of the BH-11 is 10 meters which is a standard among Bluetooth headsets. Pairing the device with your phone is easy; the device remembers the last connected phone and pairs with it automatically the next time.
The charger is a 2.5 mm pin one and this might be something that you might not be quite impressed with. A microUSB charger would have been perfect since you could use the same for both the headset and phone. But nothing to panic here, the BH-111 holds charge for a good 8 hours which eases worries about charging to a good extend. The charging time is around 2 hours for a full charge.
